What's in Our Name

Blackwatch draws its name from the legendary Black Watch regiment — one of the oldest and most decorated military units in history, formed in the Scottish Highlands in 1725. Known for their fierce discipline, unwavering loyalty, and distinctive dark tartan, the Black Watch stood guard over the Highlands and served with distinction across the globe.

Our founders — a United States Marine Corps veteran and a native of Scotland — chose this name to honor the traditions of military service, Scottish heritage, and the timeless duty of standing watch over those who need protection. The Blackwatch name represents our commitment to discipline, honor, and service above self.

Mike founded Blackwatch in 1994, drawing on his service in the United States Marine Corps and decades of experience in the security industry. A disciplined leader with a deep commitment to professionalism and service, Mike built Blackwatch from the ground up with the belief that security should be done right — with integrity, accountability, and respect for every person on site.

Jodie Mitchell

Co-Director
