Topics Covered

Firearm Safety

A thorough review of the Four Firearms Safety Rules that form the foundation of all responsible gun handling. Even experienced shooters benefit from reinforcing these fundamentals, as complacency is one of the leading causes of negligent discharges.

Clearing Pistol Stoppages

How to identify and clear common pistol malfunctions including failure to feed, failure to eject, and double feeds. You will learn the standard immediate action and remedial action drills used by law enforcement and military professionals.

Methods of Carry

An overview of the most common methods of concealed carry, including inside-the-waistband, outside-the-waistband, appendix carry, shoulder holsters, ankle holsters, and off-body carry. We discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each method and help you determine which is best suited to your body type, wardrobe, and lifestyle.

Concealment Holsters

What to look for when selecting a concealment holster, including retention level, material, comfort, draw speed, and re-holstering safety. We cover common mistakes people make when choosing holsters and how to avoid them.

Selecting Pistols, Ammunition, and Accessories

Guidance on choosing the right concealed carry pistol, defensive ammunition, and essential accessories. We cover caliber considerations, capacity versus concealability trade-offs, and the features that matter most in a carry gun.

Cleaning and Maintaining Your Firearm

Proper maintenance procedures to keep your carry weapon reliable and safe. A gun you trust your life to must function every time you need it.

Conceal Carry Laws

A comprehensive review of Colorado concealed carry laws, including where you can and cannot carry, reciprocity with other states, prohibited locations, signage requirements, and your obligations during interactions with law enforcement while carrying.

Legal Use of Force

When you are legally justified in using deadly force and when you are not. We cover Colorado's self-defense statutes, the Make My Day law, the duty to retreat (or lack thereof), and the legal standard for reasonable fear of imminent death or serious bodily injury.

What to Do After a Shooting

The critical steps you must take immediately following a defensive shooting, including securing the scene, calling 911, what to say and what not to say to responding officers, and when to invoke your right to an attorney. What you do in the minutes after a shooting can determine whether you face criminal charges.

Scenarios

Real-world scenario discussions that test your understanding of the legal and tactical concepts covered in the course. These scenarios challenge you to think through complex situations and make sound decisions under pressure.
